Siemens Acquires innotec to Enhance its Software Offering to the Process Industries

Siemens has expanded its portfolio of industrial software with an agreement to acquire innotec GmbH of Schwelm, Germany, an international vendor of digital engineering software and services for the process industry. This acquisition will increase the global leadership of Industry Automation, a division of the Siemens Industry Sector, in the market for industrial software, making Industry Automation the first industrial equipment provider able to offer all sectors of the manufacturing and process industries system-wide solutions for integrating the entire production sequence and production lifecycle. The purchase price of innotec was not disclosed, and the transaction is subject to the agreement of the authorities. This move builds on the successful acquisition of U.S.-based UGS, an industrial software supplier primarily active in the discrete manufacturing industry.

With around 200 employees, innotec is one of the leading digital engineering software vendors especially for plants in the process industry. As a result of the acquisition, innotec will become a subsidiary of Siemens AG, and for organizational purposes it will be assigned to the Industrial Automation Systems Business Unit.: "innotec is an outstanding technological supplement to our portfolio. It will make us the first vendor in the world that can offer the process industry an integrated software solution, from the planning stage of a production plant, through operation, right up to modernization,” said CEO Ralf-Michael Franke. “In the future, our customers in the process industry, like those in the discrete manufacturing industry, will be able to significantly reduce the time-to-market with coordinated Siemens technology." According to Franke, the innotec software complements Siemens' automation engineering products and services, such as its Simatic PCS 7 process control system and wide range of process instrumentation. Additionally, the sales expertise of the innotec employees, along with their long-established and close customer relationships with leading companies in the process industry, form a suitable supplement to the corresponding regional sales units of Siemens.

"Our customers will continue to receive outstanding service and support in addition to the latest software technology. As a part of Siemens, we will provide our customers with a strong partner and investment security," said Stephan Rohleder, COO of innotec GmbH.

IBM Announces Plans to Acquire ILOG

ARMONK, NY and PARIS – July 28, 2008 ILOG® (NASDAQ: ILOG; Euronext: ILO, ISIN: FR0004042364) today announced they have signed an agreement regarding a proposed acquisition by IBM of ILOG to be implemented by way of concurrent cash public tender offers in both France and the United States. Through this proposed transaction, IBM will combine its business process management (BPM), business optimization, and service oriented architecture (SOA) technologies with ILOG’s Business Rules Management Systems software. This will enable IBM to help clients deliver critical business information in real-time, allowing them to make better business decisions faster.

The cash tender offer will be at a price of €10 per ordinary share and the U.S. dollar equivalent per American Depositary Share (“ADS”) based on the Euro/U.S. dollar exchange rate as of the settlement of the tender offers, amounting to an aggregate purchase price of approximately €215 million or approximately $US340 million on a fully diluted basis. This price represents a premium of approximately 56 percent compared to ILOG's one month average of closing share prices prior to July 28, 2008, and a 37 percent premium to the closing price of Friday, July 25.

我的办公室友，是一个在法国长大的北非阿拉伯人，曾经在加拿大读博士并工作了很长一段时间。此人很有特色，是个典型的不受羁绊的快乐单身汉。进场穿件白色短袖汗衫（像我的睡衣）上班。整个部门就他一个人抽烟，因为整个大楼禁烟，每2小时他就要走到大楼外面去refresh一下。做事时经常自言自语，（法语，很黄很暴力）。我的mentor再三提醒我，不要跟着他学说，可是我已经学会了一句最黄最暴力的话，“fieta”！拼写不一定对。
这哥们百分之九十的工作时间不在自己的电脑前坐着。他喜欢和他辅导的学生在一起，学生在编程，他就坐在学生边上。时不时还一起激烈讨论。别人告诉我这是现在软件公司很流行一种工作方式，叫做Bicomputing。(real-time, manual debug) 他几乎很少自己一个人思考问题，不是问别人，听别人说，就是自己给别人讲解。
今天，他问了我非线性优化中的SQP解法。2年前学的，已经忘记的差不多了。复习了2小时后，我开始给他讲解。他对每个细节都要和我积极讨论，不放过任何一个数学符号的含义。渐渐的，他反客为主，一连发问，我一再被问倒，因为很多细节问题，我自己在学习的过程中得过且过的放过去了。经过2，3个小时的讨论，我们终于把问题全面的搞懂了。至少他应该是搞懂了。反而我自己现在有的不确定了。他还准备要做几个页PPT给别的项目组，讲解一下这个问题。
通过他，让我似乎看到了，德国教育出来的学生和美国（加拿大）教育出来的学生的区别。

Jungle 最近一直利用写论文的业余时间在准备一个关于“中德E³ 能源经济环境论坛”Chinesisch-Deutsch E³ (energy-economics-environment) Kolloquium，将于2008年1月19日在海德堡跨文化跨学科沙龙举行。对Jungle来说是一个很大的挑战和锻炼的机会。

论坛基本分为三个部分，

观看电影《不可忽视的真相》。
由我从能源，经济，环境三个角度对中德环保现状作一个简单的分析。
1. 中国环境现状（水，空气，火（能源），土）主要参考：2006年中国环境的转型与博弈自然之友编
2. 中国环境经济政策（绿色税收，绿色资本市场，生态补偿试点，排污交易市场，绿色贸易，绿色保险）主要参考：环保总局副局长潘岳在2007年9月11日的讲话《七项环境经济政策当先行》。
3. 德国环境技术概览（中德环境贸易实例:新能源，环保技术）主要参考： Wirtschafts Woche, 2007 中国特刊， Saubere Perspektive
给出一些中德环保方面的议题，并引导大家进行讨论，以下是我已经想出的议题
1. 从巴厘协定看中德环保技术合作的前景和困难
2. 环境技术转让，以及其知识产权保护
3. 我们（与会学生）可以为环境保护做点什么，联系影片《不可忽视的真相》。（狭义）
4. 我们（跨文化跨学科）可以为环境保护，中德环保技术交流做点什么。（广义）

简而言之是指，最近100年来，全球平均气温在波动中保持持续增长，进入20世纪中期以后，全球气温增速明显增快的一种现象。详解全球变暖

全球气候变暖是一个来源已久的问题了。它的产生机理和它所带来的各种问题正在逐步被人们所发掘出来。以前历史中并没有没有记载过类似的问题，因此我们面临的是一个没有经验可循的新问题。我们利用科学与技术手段做出各种各样的探索研究，我们可以做很多的实验,出很多的论文，我们可以从不同的尺度和角度提出不同的见解。我们从文艺与伦理上探究全球变暖带来的各种问题，我们拍电影:《不可忽视的真相》《后天》《11小时》等等，写环保著作《寂静的冲天》《生命的开始》等等，我们建立组织绿色和平. 联合国政府间气候变化问题小组和组织活动。

全球气候变暖的原因，现在比较主流的观点是由于温室效应和温室气体的作用。不过由于研究尺度,研究对象,研究方式选择的不同，也会有人提出不同的假设。看 1.这里 2.和这里。在最近一部比较流行的关于全球环境问题的电影《不可忽视的真相》中美国前副总统戈尔带我们一起探讨了全球气候变暖的原因及其所带来的危害。不过就有科学家William Gray站出来反驳戈尔的观点。William Gray针对戈尔和《不可忽视的真相》提出这些观点。由此我们看出，对于全球气候变暖的真正原因还有待我们继续的探索，关于全球变暖的原因的研究还是非常有必要的。古人说，知己知彼，百战不殆。了解了全球气候变暖的产生机制，我们才有可能做出积极有效的解决办法。

全球气候变暖带来的有消极效应。大家现在应该对全球气候变暖有了比较感性的认识，渠道有媒体宣传，人们议论和切身的感受。我家(湖北.丹江口)所在的地方已经有2年没怎么看到过雪了，过去是一个每年都可以看到“暴雪”的城市。现在不敢这样奢望打雪仗，碓雪人，只是期待能看到下雪而已。这样的暖冬现象也不是第一次了，全球气候变暖离我们的生活越来越近。在比较远的时间和空间尺度上，曾经发生过这样的事件 05年东南亚的海啸的悲剧美国的新奥尔良被卡特里娜吹过今年再次在印度洋出现海啸，伤亡惨重。气候的变化在整体上已对我们赖以生存的地球产生了很大的影响，由蝴蝶效应把这样的危害放大。除了这些之际由于气候问题带来的灾难外，我们还面临着其他棘手的问题，全球气候变暖带来的生物问题，生物入侵，生态灾难等等。我们现在面临的也不是单一的气候变暖问题，我们还要面临一些列由于气候变暖而衍生出的问题。我不是一个悲观主义者，我相信我们可以通过努力，改善现在人类的出境。由于我自己就是学生态学出生的，所以在这种情况下，更加感到自己所肩负的责任感。
